What The Bible Says About Faith

From front to back, God's Word is all about faith.

It is by faith that we believe that God "is". It is by faith that we believe that Christ is the savior... the messiah, who died in our place to pay redeem us from our sins.

In the book of Hebrews, the 11th chapter tells us a lot about faith.

(Hebrews 11:1-11 NKJV) Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.

{2} For by it the elders obtained a good testimony.

{3} By faith we understand that the worlds were framed by the word of God, so that the things which are seen were not made of things which are visible.

{4} By faith Abel offered to God a more excellent sacrifice than Cain, through which he obtained witness that he was righteous, God testifying of his gifts; and through it he being dead still speaks.

{5} By faith Enoch was taken away so that he did not see death, "and was not found, because God had taken him"; for before he was taken he had this testimony, that he pleased God.

{6} But without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarded of those who diligently seek Him.

{7} By faith Noah, being divinely warned of things not yet seen, moved with godly fear, prepared an ark for the saving of his household, by which he condemned the world and became heir of the righteousness which is according to faith.

{8} By faith Abraham obeyed when he was called to go out to the place which he would receive as an inheritance. And he went out, not knowing where he was going.

{9} By faith he dwelt in the land of promise as in a foreign country, dwelling in tents with Isaac and Jacob, the heirs with him of the same promise;

{10} for he waited for the city which has foundations, whose builder and maker is God.

{11} By faith Sarah herself also received strength to conceive seed, and she bore a child when she was past the age, because she judged Him faithful who had promised.

We can see in verse 6, above, that it is impossible to please God if we don't have faith. In fact, if we don't have faith, we probably won't even try to please God because we will doubt His very existence

Even if we do believe, if we act without faith, we are simply going through the motions and not pleasing God.

Faith also plays a huge role in our interaction with God and how much He can do in our lives. Yes.. it effects how much He can do in our lives!! Look at some of the examples from Jesus, when he walked the earth.

(Matthew 9:22 NKJV) But Jesus turned around, and when He saw her He said, "Be of good cheer, daughter; your faith has made you well." And the woman was made well from that hour.

It was this woman's faith that made her well! In the four gospels, Jesus said this same thing at least 7 times, so different people. It was their faith that made them well.

And here's another excellent example of someone being commended for their faith:

(Matthew 8:10-13 NKJV) When Jesus heard it, He marveled, and said to those who followed, "Assuredly, I say to you, I have not found such great faith, not even in Israel! {11} "And I say to you that many will come from east and west, and sit down with Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob in the kingdom of heaven. {12} "But the sons of the kingdom will be cast out into outer darkness. There will be weeping and gnashing of teeth." {13} Then Jesus said to the centurion, "Go your way; and as you have believed, so let it be done for you." And his servant was healed that same hour.

The Bible says a LOT more about faith, but we will cover more about it at a later time, on our blog.

Suffice it to say that faith is a key element in our walk with God, our creator.
